It runs from Chicago to L. A., 2400 miles all the way as the song goes.
It's called the mother road or main street USA.
As the song by Bobby Troup goes:
If you ever plan to motor west
Travel my way, the highway that's the best.
Get your kicks on Route 66!
Route 66 was established on November 11, 1926, and was officially removed from the United States Highway System on June 27, 1985. I wrote about Route 66 as a heading for my ride to Alaska, Alaska The Trip Of A Lifetime featured in Go FAR Magazine, the first paragraph reads. Route 66 was the main street in most towns along the route and for a while was the only road that connected the midwest with the west coast. In it's heyday, many Americans went west for job's, a better life, a new beginning or just the adventure. Unfortunately, today most of 66 is gone, just a distant memory. However, riders still longing for the glory and the adventure of the road still ride the interstate and the few undisturbed sections of Route 66. I myself have traveled the Route looking for the past, unfortunately most of 66 is left in pieces and history books. There are a few sections left here and there. With the best parts left in Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California. I'm sorry I have missed the heyday's, however, my memory's of the Route 66 will stay with me forever.
Well it's time to return to Route 66 for a ride down the mother road. In September of 2008 while on the Canyon Trip, Roy and I ventured off the Canyon route and travailed a short section of Route 66. The ride was just as exciting as the last time I visited the Mother Road. Because of that ride I'm putting together a trip down 66. The month and year will be decided from feed back I receive, if your interested or for more information please Contact Me or 813-892-4787. My plan is to ship to the starting point or from the finish, the truck will follow us from east to west, when we arrive the bikes will be loaded and delivered back to your starting point. As always, you can ride with me or at your pace.
